A Correspondence #7 : अनकही बातें
Written by Dadaji, I don't know when, never sent. Dear friend and super cool object theatre artist Choiti, added her voice and thoughts to this one
To know how it all began, read this :
The Letter
This one was never sent.
What yearning remains trapped in words never read?
I don’t know if Dadaji ever found a way to share this feeling with Dadima. But I imagine this piece of paper struggling to get off the floor, seeking my eyes, each time I open the bundle of letters. Maybe if we read it a hundred times, it will find peace.
Choiti’s response made me think of hands and distance and transformation bound within time. The words broke out of the page and mixed with soft things I was holding on to for years.
(A Hindi transcription of the letter can be found here. And an English translation is available here.)
In Choiti’s Words
I find myself unable to read this letter without the thick presence of its tumultuous time and place of origin.
Division. Yearning for reconciliation. Domestic and public have become one.
Here is an ode to divided time, divided land, and divided people seeking connection.
